Replay. One morning edition rebuilt from last year's data, as it would have landed in a fashion retailer's war room at 08:00 on Black Friday 2025. Anonymized: brands are described, not named. The green box at the end shows what happened next.

Black Friday is the crowd. Coats and gifts are the pull.

198 fashion brands now say "Black Friday", and their posts draw a below-average response. The audience is pulling toward winter coats and Christmas gifts, where the crowd isn't growing. Your festive-looks posts were your strongest of the week; don't swap them for the 30% today.

Lead today's feed with coats and festive looks, not with the 30%.

Your Facebook festive-looks posts drew 175× (25 Nov) and 64× (27 Nov) the typical fashion post that week. Yesterday's Instagram Black Friday post drew 0.16×. Across ~290 fashion brands, coat posts went from 0.62× to 1.46× typical in a week while the number of brands posting them stayed flat (140 → 136).

Post the fake-fur and coat edit (your TikTok fake-fur jacket on 21 Nov drew 2.1×, your best TikTok in two weeks) and a festive look. Put the 30% in the caption, not the headline.

Paid · Don't chase

Move paid budget off the generic "SALE up to 30%" ads and onto outerwear and gifts.

Overnight your panel added 33 % more paid ads (1,557 → 2,077): two fashion platforms +40 % and +54 %, a Spanish department store +35 %, a German premium department store +33 %. A generic sale message bids into the most crowded auction of the year.

Shift the generic sale ad sets to coats and outerwear and to gift edits.

CRM subject line + homepage · Push now

Put gifts next to the 30% in today's subject line and homepage hero.

Christmas gifting is the theme pulling with no crowd growth: 1.07× → 1.21× typical, with the brand count flat (138 → 143) and paid flat (343 → 356 ads). Your Monday mailings led with "30%" alone.

Example: "30 % off gifts that last, until Monday". Homepage hero: a gift edit of the 30% pieces, not the generic sale grid.

Biggest change: you, up from #17 to #7 on two Facebook festive-looks posts. The mirror image: a regional competitor that was the third-heaviest paid advertiser in the panel last week had the lowest social response.

3Competitor moves overnight

What changed on Thu 27 Nov, from public posts, newsletters, homepages and ads.

  • Paid ramp on Black Friday eve. Panel paid ads +33 % in a day; four retailers each ran 200 to 450 ads.
  • Both fashion platforms went deep in CRM. Newsletters: "Black Friday: up to −70%" and "up to −70% EXTRA on everything".
  • A premium department store runs a daily special. "Only today": −20 % on jeans and trousers (26 Nov), on lingerie (27 Nov), −20 % on fragrance with a code. The Black Week Sale is up to −30 % on autumn/winter; members got −30 % two days early.
  • A regional competitor adds in-store depth. An extra 20 % on already reduced items in stores, Friday to Sunday.
  • A brand you stock went direct. Its first Black Week move: 25 % on the whole autumn/winter collection on its own site, while retailers' search ads promote the same brand without a price.
  • Two US brands run deal formats. One: "deal of the day", an extra −20 % on jeans and jackets with a code (27 of its 29 paid ads say Black Friday). The other: member early access 30 %, homepage "up to 40 %".
  • A German department-store chain bundles. 30 % on fashion, bags and shoes, and "2 cashmere pullovers for €100".

4Audience pull

~290 fashion brands. Response index = median response of the theme's social posts ÷ median of all other fashion social posts in the same week (1.0 = typical). Week before → last 7 days.

Inside Black Friday, the audience rewards depth: posts at 50 %+ went from 0.48× to 1.24×. The 30 % band tripled its crowd and stayed below typical. If you discount, either name a deep number or don't lead with the number.

5Watch list: what could tip by Monday

  • Advent calendars, Sunday. Only 24 brands and falling response, but Advent starts on Sunday. Have an Advent post and mailing ready for Sunday morning.
  • Daily-deal formats ("only today"). From 1 brand to 4 in a week, including a premium department store and a US brand. Too few posts to judge; check on Saturday whether more brands copy it for Cyber Monday.
  • A competitor's in-store extra 20 %. Runs Friday to Sunday; watch local search.
  • Festive looks. Market response dipped (1.36× → 1.09×) but stays above typical, and it is your strongest theme. Keep it in the feed.

Source. novuter MarketWatch: a 22-brand fashion panel and fashion pool (~290 active fashion brands), all posts paid and organic, de-duplicated per post. Data run of 7 Oct 2026.

Method. Response = the MarketWatch relevance score, which exists for organic posts only. Social channels only, because newsletter scores barely vary by subject and aren't comparable. Indexes are within-week ratios, never raw scores across weeks. Themes and mechanics are keyword-classified from post text, one theme per post. Paid = distinct ads seen per day. Weeks: 14–20 Nov vs 21–27 Nov 2025; hindsight 28 Nov–1 Dec 2025.

Caveats. Panel and pool are pan-European, not DACH only. Advent (24 posts) and the daily-deal formats are small samples. An index shows association, not cause. Real editions name your competitors and are checked by a person before 08:00.
